President Nicolae Timofti, by announcing consultations with the parliamentary groups, hurries the politicians to identify solutions to the political crisis, considers political analyst Anatol Taranu. “The head of state has his own agenda that is different from the parties’ agenda,” the analyst stated for IPN.

”It is evident that the head of state cannot endlessly postpone the nomination of a candidate for premiership. He has his own understanding of what a reasonable timeframe means,” said Anatol Taranu. According to him, a new Prime Minister must be named within 45 days of the initiation of consultations.

Political analyst Viorel Cibotaru believes that the Democratic Party and the Liberal Democratic Party are ready to propose solutions to re-form the ruling alliance. “In principle, these two parties are ready to appear before the head of state with certain proposals. The Liberal Party is not sufficiently ready in this respect, especially judging by the appearances in public of Mihai Ghimpu,” he stated.

The analyst believes that the PLDM will not propose another candidate for Prime Minister instead of Vlad Filat. “But the party will leave doors open at least for a civilized dialogue. The PDM will probably suggest another solution, but I expect that they will also leave doors open for reaching a compromise. The PL will come with a third solution or will support one of the two solutions. Most probably, it will support the solution of the PDM, which may propose solutions for overcoming the crisis, not yet a separate candidate,” said Viorel Cibotaru.

The analyst considers that the consultations can last longer as the number of rounds is not fixed. ”None of the parties of the alliance wants early elections. Each of them wants to submit a maximum of proposals and to get a minimum that they will have to accept. The parties are afraid not of early elections, but of being accused of not being able to come to terms for the country’s interest,” said Viorel Cibotaru.

On March 20, President Nicolae Timofti opened consultations with the parliamentary groups, aimed at identifying a candidate for the post of Prime Minister. The PDM insists that the Government should be headed by Vlad Filat, while the Liberals and the Democrats are against him. The Communist faction refused to hold consultations with the head of state.
