President Vladimir Voronin accuses the Christian Democrat People’s Party and the Democrat Party of destroying in just a few days the consensus between the political parties which lasted for two years in the Parliament. “The correct, balanced and European standpoint of the Parliament is history now. Regretfully, the Moldovan politics became primitive, meaning that there are relations only between two forces – PCRM and the entire opposition”, Voronin told a news conference on Wednesday, July 25. According to the head of state, “the opposition has not understood that Moldova is state, but not an enterprise, a state where all the elements are independent. The opposition has easily given up the consensus settled between the political parties represented in the Parliament in the name of the European integration in exchange for a new consensus – “for obtaining plots of land”. The new united opposition starts again blackmailing the government, threatening it with street demonstrations, and according to the head of state, the pretext is the possibility of settling the Transnistrian conflict”. According to the president, the opposition has again decided to plead against the territorial wholeness of the country, its reintegration and demilitarisation. According to Voronin, several political leaders consider that their political rating could go down if the country will be whole again, and this potential threat for their personal comfort, political and patrimonial, makes them work against the most important interests of the Moldovan state and of the entire people”. Voronin considers that the opposition did not get through the responsibility it has for democracy, for stability and European values. “PCRM and its parliamentary faction will not continue in this situation the practice of political altruism – meaning that it will not offer offices to the opposition in different institutions of the state, will not make beforehand agreements with it on different problems of state power and policy. This period is over”, the President added. “In the future, we will act according to the principle that we are fully responsible for protecting the interests of the state and of the people”, Voronin stated. The political consensus between those three parties was decided along with the vote of April 4, 2005, as a result of which Vladimir Voronin was re-elected as President of Moldova, including due to the votes of PPCD, PD and PSL. After the local general elections, in a series of settlements, including in districts and the Municipality of Chisinau, the local councillors of PPCD and PD formed non-communist alliances with the representatives of the opposition.
