The party “For People, Nature and Animals” (PONA) proposes that the Apa-Canal Chisinau and water supply systems should not be privatized as natural gas supply networks were privatized, as they are “strategic assets for a state”. And the privatization of the Apa-Canal Chisinau company is a matter of time, something that will happen if no measures are taken, thinks Ion Dron, the president of the party.
According to him, if we fail to keep water resources under state control, we will pay for utilities to foreigners, not to the public budget. The development visions of the Chisinau municipality were presented by the president of the party during a press conference on Tuesday after the party was registered in the race for the Chisinau Municipal Council.
Ion Dron noted that air pollution in Chisinau is far above the norm. The party intends to hire foreign specialists to evaluate the entire transport system in Chisinau in such a way that traffic congestions and uncontrolled emission of exhaust gases are avoided. “In order to avoid traffic jams, and traffic jams mean exhaust gases, we have the vision to build an overpass that like a corridor will link Ciocana sector, from Vadul-lui-Vodă street, to Centru sector, to Ismail street, and this way we solve traffic jams and exhaust gases and air pollution there in that area, the Tobacco Factory and Calea Basarabiei”, said Ion Dron.
Another priority drawn by the party is solving the problem of stray animals. According to Ion Dron, due to the fact that abandonment is not sanctioned, today animals are on the street and pose a threat to people. The president of the party said that the problem of animals, especially those without owners, is not a hassle, but a social problem. Sterilization is a way that can lead to solving this problem. Sufficient studies have been conducted in the West that have demonstrated the causal relationship between domestic violence and human cruelty to animals. The party will plead for the establishment of a register for the animals that are in the homes of the capital’s residents and a register of abandoned animals, said Ion Dron.
Also, the party aims to build a green belt around the city of Chisinau. In this regard, the party wants the landfill that is planned to be built in Stăuceni be transferred to the areas as far away from populated localities as possible. PONA will plead for the Environment Department to be re-established within the Chisinau City Hall.
