The President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella started his two-day visit to the Republic of Moldova today, June 17. On this occasion, a concert honoring the work of Giacomo Puccini will be organized at the Palace of the Republic on Monday. On Tuesday, President Maia Sandu will receive her Italian counterpart at the Presidential Palace with an official ceremony. On both of the days, the people’s access to particular public places in the capital city will be temporarily limited, IPN reports.

The concert at the Palace of the Republic will honor the work of Giacomo Puccini given that 2024 is the year in which the work of the well-known composer is celebrated. The event will be attended by the leaders of the two states, Sergio Mattarella and Maia Sandu.

The official ceremony to welcome the President of Italy will be held on Tuesday morning at the Presidential Palace. Later, Sergio Mattarella and Maia Sandu will give a joint press conference.

“Sergio Mattarella’s visit is the first official visit by a President of the Italian Republic to the Republic of Moldova, Italy being one of the most important partners of our country. Italy hosts the largest community of Moldovans of the diaspora, which contributes to strengthening the bond between the states, developing the economy of both countries and strengthening bridges between people and communities, starting from cultural affinities,” said the presidential press service.

In connection with the Italian President’s visit, on Monday and Tuesday, the people’s access to areas downtown and on arteries that ensure connection with the Chisinau International Airport will be limited between 08:00 and 18:00. Also, the holding of public rallies, carrying out of repair works on roads, electrical, heat, water supply and sewerage networks, and felling of trees on the streets on which the official column will move will be limited.
