President of Bundestag says Germany shows interest regarding the evolutions in Moldova

The visit of the delegation of the German Bundestag proves the high interest of the German authorities regarding the state of affairs in Moldova, including in light of the close adhering of Romania to the EU, after which Moldova will become a neighbor of the Union, Norbert Lammert, the President of the German Bundestag declared at a meeting with the President of the Republic of Moldova.
Norbert Lammert emphasized the importance of identifying a mechanism on facilitating the visa regime for the citizens of Moldova to the EU member countries.
The President of the Federal Assembly referred also to the significance of turning to good account the economic-commercial dimension of the bilateral relations, pleading at the same time for developing cultural-humanitarian contacts.
In the context of the Transnistrian issue, Norbert Lammert reiterated the standpoint of the German authorities regarding the unconditioned support of the efforts of Moldova in reestablishing territorial integrity, standpoint which was also formulated in the statement adopted by the German Bundestag in 2004.
The head of state emphasized the interest of Moldova’s leadership in developing political dialogue with EU also after the implementation of the Action Plan Moldova-EU. In this context, the head of state named several aspects which must be settled, and namely the necessity of facilitating the visa regime with EU member countries for the citizens of Moldova, signing the asymmetrical trade agreement with the EU, including Moldova in the implementation of EU projects, especially in the energetic field.
Vladimir Voronin expressed his gratitude to the German authorities for their constant support offered to the Republic of Moldova in solving the Transnistrian conflict, mentioning about the importance of joining the efforts of the international community in order to definitively settle this conflict.
