President Igor Dodon invited the parliamentary majority groups for discussions on Friday, November 8, at different time. Asked about the odds of a possible censure motion, the head of state has said that they are considerable and that a motion is already being prepared, but everything will become clearer after the consultations to be held before the sitting of Parliament. The statements were made after the PSRM group meeting, which was attended by Igor Dodon, IPN reports.
"So that you know my personal position, the Socialists’position, we want to keep this parliamentary majority. We want to maintain this Government, because it is a chance for the Republic of Moldova. At the same time, my Socialist colleagues do not accept the promotion of initiatives that contravene the Constitution, in their opinion, as well as those understandings and agreements, which were signed between the Socialists and the ACUM Bloc,” President Igor Dodon told reporters.
According to the head of state, in September an agreement was signed that clearly stipulates the procedure for the appointment of candidates to different positions. "We support the judiciary reform, we support the reform of the Prosecutor's office, but when there are attempts to politically subordinate important positions in the state to a person, a party leader, I think this is not quite right," the president contended.
The president has stated that the meeting with the Socialist group is scheduled for 10.00 a.m. in Parliament. The PAS group, ACUM Bloc is expected for discussions at 11.00, and at 12.00 - the ACUM, DA Platform group. Igor Dodon explains the separate invitations to the components of the ACUM bloc for discussions by the fact that the groups are also distinct. "I believe that, as head of state, I must do my best to avoid early elections. Therefore, I will use my presidential status to make them sit at the table. Maybe, after that, we will all meet together, "said Igor Dodon.
PSRM leader, Zinaida Greaceanîi, has mentioned that the created situation was discussed in the goup and it was agreed that the parliamentary majority must be kept at any cost. Therefore, it was decided to give it another try. That is, the Socialist MPs will convene tomorrow at 09.00, and Prime Minister Maia Sandu is also expected at the meeting. "The bill on assuming the responsibility has been put forward and already registered in the Parliament, so now we are obligated, I am going to the Parliament, I will convene the meeting of the Bureau, I will propose the colleagues to hold tomorrow, at 3 pm, the sitting of the Parliament," mentioned the Speaker of the Parliament.
On Wednesday, November 6, the Government assumed responsibility for amending the Law of the Prosecutor's Office, so that the Prime Minister would be responsible for preselecting the candidates for the Prosecutor General's position. Maia Sandu said that the amendments made in September this year did not lead to the expected results of choosing an honest and courageous prosecutor. Although the Ministry of Justice set up a special commission to pre-select candidates for the position of Prosecutor General, before presenting them to the Superior Council of Prosecutors, this task could not be fulfilled because the members of the commission did not have access to sufficient data that would confirm the integrity and professionalism of the candidates. Maia Sandu claims that she has found no other solution than to bring in Parliament the initiative to assume responsibility for amending the Law on the Prosecutor's Office, so as to propose two candidates for the position of Prosecutor General. The chief of the executive says she will not give in, nor withdraw her initiative, as for the Socialists, they are entitled to make a decision in Parliament.
