The two MPs expelled from the Democratic Party last week declared their support for the Chicu Government and the PSRM-PDM coalition, noted President Igor Dodon, which means the current government has the support of 51 out of 101 MPs.
“But even if this support is discontinued, go on and have another majority of 51 MPs that submits a motion of no confidence and assumes responsibility for a political crisis in this difficult situation. We are ready for any scenario,” stated Igor Dodon.
Dodon added that the expulsion of the two lawmakers is “an internal affair” of the Democratic Party. This doesn’t mean that the duo is welcome to join the PSRM, says Dodon, who describes himself as “the Socialists’ informal leader.” A staunch critic of party-switching, Dodon says the PSRM parliamentary group can add new members only following elections.
“So, dear Ms. Maia Sandu, go on and band together with Mr. Candu, Mr. Șor, with all the rest and try to dismiss the Government. But our mission, mine as a president and the mission of my colleagues in the Government, is to ensure stability in an extremely difficult period with COVID-19 and drought,” added Igor Dodon.
Vladimir Andronachi and Eugeniu Nichiforciuc announced they were leaving the PDM group to become unaffiliated MPs. Later the PDM withdrew their party membership as well.
