President Igor Dodon noted that in a discussion with the president of the Russian gas giant Gazprom Alexei Miller, he asked this to consider the possibility of reducing the current price of gas for Moldova by 25%. He believes this is possible now that Moldova obtained the status of observer at the Eurasian Union, IPN reports.

According to President Dodon, the agreement with Gazprom based on which the Republic of Moldova purchases gas from the Russian Federation was signed in 2006 and expires at the end of this year. The negotiations on the next agreement should be opened.

“Given that we obtained the status of observer at the Eurasian Union, I requested our partners to analyze the possibility of providing a 25% discount on the price of gas to us. This thing is very important and will be felt by each consumer,” Igor Dodon stated in the program “Key issue” on NTV Moldova channel.

He said he also discussed the transportation of gas through the neighboring country Ukraine and the Transnistrian region’s debt for natural gas to the Russian company with the president of Gazprom.

“We, the consumers of gas from the right bank of the Nistru, will not pay for the consumption of gas on the left bank and I think we do not need to pay. We will clarify things concerning this debt separately. But we should no way pay for those who do not pay as we regularly paid during all these 27 years for gas.

The meeting of Igor Dodon and Alexei Miller took place last week, when the President of Moldova paid a working visit to Russia. He also met with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin and other officials.
