President Igor Dodon said he doubts that a coalition will be formed in the new Parliament elected on February 24. He noted the probability of snap legislative elections is of about 60% at present, IPN reports.

However, the President noted that there are two more months during which negotiations on possible coalitions and alliances can be held. If a coalition is not formed by June, he will have to dissolve Parliament and to announce snap elections.

“If no law is adopted by the legislature by the middle of June, which is during three months, and if a Parliament Speaker is not elected meanwhile, I can dissolve Parliament when the three-month period expires. There are two more months from today,” President Dodon stated in a special edition on NTV Moldova channel.

According to him, the closer is the Parliament dissolution date, the more active will be the MPs. “It seems to me that in case of snap elections, those of the right will be most affected,” stated Igor Dodon.

He does not think that everything is lost, but the probability of snap elections is not lower than 60% given the statements made until now.

None of the parties that contended in the February 24, 2019 parliamentary elections gained over 50% of the vote to obtain a majority of seats in Parliament. A government alliance thus needs to be formed.
