President Nicolae Timofti convoked the Supreme Security Council after the political crisis was overcome and the situation in state institutions stabilized. Contacted by IPN, political analyst Viorel Cibotaru said it is an ordinary meeting that follows a political crisis. The Council could not be convened earlier because they cannot question persons holding posts on an interim basis on such issues as the bank security.

The Council’s meeting set to start at 9am on June 11 will focus on the reports on the ensuring of security in the banking system. Viorel Cibotaru said that Nicolae Timofti convened the Council not only because of the latest problems experienced by some of the banks, but also because the whole national banking system is a closed and not very transparent one. There are no mechanisms for identifying the owners.

The Council will also discuss the bills to reform the Supreme Security Council and to modernize the Security and Information Service.

On June 10, Nicolae Timofti signed a decree appointing new members of the Council. Among them are Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, Head of Parliament Igor Corman, Deputy Prime Minister Natalia Gherman, and Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin.
