President Nicolae Timofti conferred posthumously the Order of the Republic on the four members of the SMURD team who died in a helicopter crash in southern Moldova last week, IPN reports.
According to the presidential press service, the order was awarded to doctor Mihaela Dumea, pilot Ilie Doru Gavril, medical assistant Adrian-Gabriel Sandu and copilot Constantin Voicu Socae in appreciation and recognition for the irreproachable fulfillment of their duties and for their courage, dedication and spirit of sacrifice shown when saving human lives in emergencies.
The SMURD helicopter with the four crew members on board crashed near Haragas village of Cantemir district on June 2. All the four team members who were Romanian citizens died in the line of duty.
