The National Theater “Mihai Eminescu” in Chisinau has announced the premiere of the play “Lucky Strike”, by American dramatist Rick Cleveland’s “Jerry and Tom”. When presenting the play to the press, stage manager Vitalie Drucec said the spectators will be able to see the story of people from the underworld, who also have families and who sometimes try to get rid of this environment. The cast includes actors Nicu Suveica, Alexandru Plesca and Ghenadie Galca, IPN reports.
The play starts with a man tied to the chair who, with a balaclava on his head, tells stories to his torturers while these are waiting for an order from the chief to kill this. Memories are recollected between stories, evoking the boss who is like a father-mentor.
Vitalie Drucec said the underground world about which we hear from the press only is presented on the stage. These people, whose goal is to execute, have also another life. “In the play, we introduced a part from The Hamlet, where it is said what a wonderful creature the man is and how noble the intelligence is, like an angel or a Zeus. However, this creature crumbles into dust. Therefore, the humans must create something beautiful as long as they live,” stated the director.
The play is not recommended to teens under 16 as it contains violent scenes and rude language. But it is a humorous play and each of the spectators will find something to learn from it, according to Vitalie Drucec.
Rick Cleveland is a contemporary playwright. He wrote scripts for such television series as The West Wing, Mad Men, House of Cards and Six Feet Under.
“Lucky Strike” is premiered in the Studio Hall of the National Theater “Mihai Eminescu” at 6:30pm on November 30. Tickets cost 70 lei.
