Prime Minister Pavel Filip on July 25 handed over the national flag to the Olympic squad that will represent Moldova at the 31st edition of the Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro during August 5 – 21. The Premier called on the Moldovan athletes to show perseverance and to represent Moldova with pride, noting that their mission is an honor, but also a big responsibility, IPN reports, quoting the Government’s press service.
“I’m sure that you will represent us with honor at the Olympic Games and you will make every effort to make proud your coaches and all the citizens of Moldova, who, as I, strongly believe in your talent and in the results that will be achieved,” said Pavel Filip.
The athletes attending the event assured that they will make everything possible to obtain good results and to return to the country with medals and with places of honor.
At the 2016 Summer Olympics, the Republic of Moldova will be represented by 21 athletes in 8 events, namely athletics, swimming, canoe, taekwondo, wrestling, weightlifting, judo and archery.
