“During the first months in office, your task is to be half-ministers and half-prosecutors,” Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița told the ministers in the first meeting of the Government that was held on August 9, IPN reports.

Natalia Gavrilița said she is interested, as the citizens are, to know what schemes were used to appropriate money from ministries and the subordinate institutions. “I ask you to verify all the procurement contracts of the recent period and to inform us what firms were subscribers to procurement, what purchases seem dubious either at the tendering stage or as regards the price of products or the provided services,” she stated.

The Premier noted she would like to know which persons from ministries or from the field intermediated or benefitted from appropriation schemes. This effort is first of all needed to stop the abuses and waste of public funds and to realize how the networks that parasitize on the budget can be removed and also to transmit information about illegalities, corruption and abuse of power to the responsible bodies.

Natalia Gavrilița also had a message to the functionaries, saying “good times” come for the functionaries who work and do not steal. The honest and devoted persons will enjoy promotion opportunities and will be appreciated for the efforts made for the people’s benefit.

“For ministers, your teams will mean your success as ministers and the success of this Government and will significantly influence the developments in this country,” said the Premier, urging the ministers to find optimal ways for reorganizing the ministries so as to ensure team work with results for the people and to make sure that work for public service regains the trust, respect and prestige needed in a prosperous state.

In the first Cabinet meeting, a number of secretaries of state were hired and fired and a number of agency heads were dismissed.
