Premier seeks help from international community

Moldova's Prime Minister Vlad Filat said the Government will cover the difference between the old and new charges for the socially deprived groups of people. The method by which the compensations will be paid is now being worked out. At the same time, Filat called on the international community to help Moldova overcome this problem. He made the call during a meeting with the EU Ambassadors working in Moldova, the Head of the European Commission's Delegation, Ambassador Dirk Schuebel and the U.S. Ambassador in Chisinau Asif J. Chaudry on February 5, Info-Prim Neo has learned from the Government's press service. Ambassador Dirk Schuebel said the European Union follows attentively the developments in Moldova and the steps taken by the Government. He also said that the EU is now considering the possibility of providing additional financial support to Moldova. As to the economic situation in Moldova, Vlad Filat said the approval by the International Monetary Fund of the memorandum with Moldova shows that the international community supports the official Chisinau. “However, the recent rises in charges make us look for solutions for helping the people on low incomes so that they are not affected by these increases,” Filat said. Vlad Filat took stock of the most recent events that took place in Moldova and informed the officials about the visits paid by him to the United States and Ukraine and about the visits planned to Poland and Hungary. He voiced hope that the next visits will be as successful as the previous ones and will strengthen the relations between Moldova and the international community. As regards Romanian President Traian Basescu's visit to Moldova, the Premier said it was very important and the relations between the two states have improved considerably. Vlad Filat informed the Ambassadors that the Secretary of the Venice Commission is expected to Chisinau and that the possible modification of the Constitution of Moldova will be in the agenda of his meetings with him.
