Prime Minister Pavel Filip asked that the Ministry of Health, the National Food Safety Agency and the National Public Health Center should submit proposals for amending the legislation and eliminating the shortcomings existing in the process of supplying food products to education institutions within a week. He also requested to amend the Contravention Code and institute fines for the identified irregularities for officials in charge from inspection and education institutions.

The requests were made in the March 1 meeting of the Cabinet after the Premier carried out an inspection to a Chisinau kindergarten, at the request of a parent. “I saw dairy products kept together with meat in the same fridge, food leftovers and eggs with the use-by date expired,” stated Pavel Filip. He criticized the personnel of the kindergarten for the lack of hygiene in the institution, saying there was a layer of dust there.

When the changes asked by the Premier are made, inspections will be carried out at kindergartens and schools in all the villages and towns.
