Prime Minister Pavel Filipa came before the MPs with a report on the implementation of the Government’s plan of action for 2016. Initially, the Premier noted the good cooperation relations between the Government and Parliament, with the ruling alliance, with the development partners and civil society organizations, thanking these for the provided support. “Beyond politics and statements, our interest should be a common one, regardless of the parties of which we form part, and this should be to modernize the country and improve the living standards of the people. I would like this to be the country project of everyone, even if we struggle to achieve it in different ways,” stated Pavel Filip, quoted by IPN.
The Premier enumerated the main accomplishments of the Government last year. “We paid increased attention to corruption fighting and managed to take measures to strengthen the justice system. Severe punishment was introduced for the unjustified use of European funds and two specialized prosecutor’s offices were set up. The new legislation enabled the prosecution bodies to become more efficient, while statistics show that 36 judges of the over 1,200 were convicted of acts of corruption. It is a signal for justice to reduce corruption in the sector,” he stated.
Pavel Filip referred also to the benefits of the Association Agreement, noting that the EU’s exports in 2016 represented 65% of the total exports. Investment was made in improving the training of the military. The reunification of the country should be a common priority.
Asked about the appointment of ministers at four ministries, Pavel Filip said there is no use naming new persons now that the Cabinet reform is underway.
In the speeches given after the presentation of the report by the Prime Minister, MP Valeriu Giletski, of the European People’s Party of Moldova, said the figures about corruption fighting are sad and show there is a lot of corruption in the country, including at the high level, and the fight against this phenomenon should be stepped up.
Democratic MP Marian Lupu said that owing to the Government, Moldova follows the correct path. “Things are not ideal and milk does not pour with honey, but nobody says this. The supporters and the opponents should accept the accomplishments and make a fair comparison between the beginning and the end of last year,” he stated.
