The Government remains focused on the implementation of reforms and fulfilment of the European agenda. The progress made so far is felt in the economy and the social sphere. However, the European Union’s support is needed so as to continue to achieve results in the process of reforming key areas and of modernizing the country.

The statements were made by Prime Minister Pavel Filip in a meeting with Christian Danielsson, European Commission Director General for European Neighborhood Policy, and Thomas Mayr Harting, Managing Director at the European External Action Service for Europe and Central Asia, in Chins, IPN reports, quoting the Government’s press service.

The Premier underlined the importance of maintaining an open dialogue with the European partners, noting the rapprochement with the EU remains a priority for the government. “We do not see another path for the Republic of Moldova. The European Union is our only option. We have no other path because we belong to the European area,” stated Pavel Filip.

In this connection, the European officials stressed the necessity of making additional efforts to reform the justice sector, fight corruption and investigate the banking fraud.

The interlocutors exchanged opinions on the upcoming parliamentary elections. The Premier said the authorities will be making every effort to ensure a free, fair and democratic electoral process.
