“The European Union remains the only option and only plan of the Republic of Moldova,” stated Prime Minister Pavel Filip, who is paying a working visit to New York, where he is taking part in the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly. The Premier had a discussion with Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn, IPN reports.

“It is not easy. We witness both ups and downs, but our relationship with the EU is a long-lasting one and we will not abandon it. Our place is in Europe,” Pavel Filip wrote in a posting on Facebook.

The Premier also discussed with the President of Romania. “I was glad to meet in New York the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis, who is a good friend of the Republic of Moldova. Our countries follow the same road, the European one, and we further count on Bucharest’s support for our European course, especially when Romania will be holding the presidency of the Council of the European Union,” wrote Pavel Filip.

On the sidelines of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly, Pavel Filip had a meeting with the President of Cyprus Nikos Anastasiades where the officials considered possibilities of realizing the economic cooperation potential and of attracting Cypriot investments to Moldova’s economy. The interlocutors agreed to intensify cooperation in such areas as migration of labor force, social security, justice, education and health.

The Premier also met with the Prime Minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze. The two officials discussed the excellent bilateral relations and the developing political dialogue. After Pavel Filip paid an official visit to Tbilisi last year, Premier Mamuka Bakhtadze will come to Chisinau this October to take part in the meeting of GUAM Heads of Government.

In the meeting with the Director General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization José Graziano, Pavel Filip learned that FAO will continue to assist Moldova in modernizing the agricultural sector and in developing sustainable and competitive agriculture.
