“Today’s discussion centered on very practical matters, political, economic and social issues,” the leader of the Democratic Party (PDM) Marian Lupu said after the consultations with the Lib-Dems’ candidate for premiership Valeriu Strelet on July 28. Lupu stated that they discussed topical problems faced by the people, noting that the new Government that will be headed by Strelet will have to work in a rather tense regional and internal situation and will have to perform a lot of tasks in this regard, IPN reports.

“The goal of the meeting wasn’t to give a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ on the part of the PDM to Strelet as we expressed our support yesterday evening already, in the discussions with the head of state, before the signing of the relevant decree,” stated Marian Lupu.

The leader of the PDM also said they agreed to establish a permanent dialogue as everyone’s intention, including of the parliamentary coalition, is for the Cabinet to be efficient and to enjoy full political support so that the mistakes made in the past are avoided.

Asked about the PDM’s candidates for posts on the new Cabinet, the Democratic leader refused to give names, saying the list includes new persons and persons who held the post of minister earlier. “Such an approach is normal. On the one hand, there must be continuity and the past experience should be used. On the other hand, the composition must be renewed,” stated Lupu.

Valeriu Strelet said the meeting was short, but very positive. “We spoke about the general principles of cooperation in governance, which refer not only to the executive, and the cooperation between the Government and Parliament. We spoke about the perspective of immediate reforms that should be promoted in a number of sectors that became very sensitive. We also spoke about the finalization of the government program,” stated Strelet, adding that they also discussed the national priorities from the current agenda, including the care for the people, especially those affected by the recent tariff rises.

The Premier designate noted that the meeting was attended by all the candidates fielded by the PDM for ministers. Asked if Maia Sandu will form part of the new Cabinet, Strelet said the PLDM made her a number of offers and it depends on her if she accepts them.

The Premier designate’s meeting with the other alliance partners – the Liberal MPs – starts at 7pm.
