The Moldovan Government’s decision to annul the secondary and high school graduation exams was one of the most difficult decisions taken during the state of emergency, IPN quoted Prime Mister Ion Chicu as saying in the talk show “Moldova Live” on the public TV channel.
“We had three or four rounds of discussions with my colleagues, Minister Sharov and other specialists. Personally, I was in favor of the organization of this exam at any cost, but I cannot provide counterarguments when they say that it is not possible to fully guarantee the security of students, of the young people who take the exam. I mean the sanitary, health security. This is the key argument,” stated Premier Chicu.
He noted the decision was taken after reaching the conclusion that the Baccalaureate centers are not safe for the health of those involved in the process. “We have about 400 Baccalaureate centers where exams can be taken. After assessing the possibilities of ensuring this protected regime, we understood that risks are possible. We do not want to assume these risks. That’s why I finally supported the Education Ministry’s proposal as this is very judicious at this stage. If is a difficult decision, but the children’s health is a priority. That’s why we must follow this path,” he stated.
The official also said that the process involves not only students, but also a large number of teachers who are to organize the exams and to later grade the test papers. “It is potential exposure to health risks of a large number of people. We do not want to risk the people’s health in such conditions,” he noted.
As to the dissatisfaction with the taken decision expressed by students and parents, Ion Chicu said there is no solution that would satisfy everyone.
“It’s clear that this decision cannot satisfy everyone and I understand very well the students who prepared and want to take this exam, but I told you the key reason. The security and health of the people prevails and I want to believe that the young people realize this. It wasn’t possible to propose a solution that would have suited everyone,” stated the official.
