Prime Minister Iurie Leanca called upon the administration of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia not to ignore the efforts to develop the country and to present the state of affairs objectively. In the February 5 meeting of the Government, the Premier appraised the events that took place in Gagauzia on February 2, which the organizers named referendum, IPN reports.

“I’m absolutely convinced that those who live in Leova district want to have hospitals and schools as all the other Moldovan citizens want. I’m sure that those from Ungheni district want to have water and sewerage projects in their villages, as those who live in the autonomous unit want. Those from Soroca and Drochia surely want roads, infrastructure of a high quality built from national and foreign funds,” said Iurie Leanca.

He added that the executive will continue to solve the problems faced by the people in southern, central and northern Moldova. “I assure you that tomorrow, when I meet with the presidents of the EBRD and EIB, we will discuss new investments in Moldova, including Gagauzia. I also plan to meet with the Russian Premier Dmitry Medvedev in Sochi to discuss the relations of the Gagauz companies with Russia. When I go to the U.S. at the start of March, together with winemakers, I will insist that wine producers from Gagauzia also form part of this delegation so as to see how we together can penetrate an enormous and promising market for our winemakers,” he stated.

As to the legislative initiative concerning the removal of the Bashkan from the Cabinet, Iurie Leanca said he does not think that this is a good idea. “We want to focus on constructive elements aimed at ensuring welfare, not on actions aimed against the territorial integrity of Moldova,” he said.
