By voting in a majority Government with pro-European political support, Moldova took a step back from the brink and will follow the correct path that does not lead to the brink of a precipice, Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet said after the August 12 meeting of the Government, commenting on the statement that Moldova is on the brink, made by Thorbjorn Jagland, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, IPN reports.
The Premier noted that for Moldova to fulfill the provisions of the Association Agreement with the EU, the Government will work to ensure the macro-financial and economic stability. This complex of actions must be taken and they will help get rid of clichés. “This statement worries us and we are ready to draw conclusions. We will do our utmost for the high-ranking officials to no more make such statements,” he stated.
Thorbjorn Jagland said the Republic of Moldova is at risk of becoming Europe’s next security crisis, and to avoid this, “this captured state must be returned to its citizens”. In an Op-Ed titled “Bring Moldova Back From the Brink”, published in The New York Times, Jagland remarks that despite some success in coming closer to Europe in the last six years, “the state is still in the hands of oligarchs”.
