Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici requested Minister of the Interior Oleg Balan to propose a candidate for the post of head of the General Police Inspectorate, who would be selected at a transparent contest, IPN reports.
“We haven’t had a manager at the General Police Inspectorate for two months and such a situation is not normal. The legislation provides that the Inspectorate’s chief must be fielded by the minister of the interior, but does not specify the mechanism for choosing the candidate. I suggest holding a transparent public contest to select a candidate,” said the Premier. He asked that the criteria for selecting the candidate should be published on the Inspectorate’s website during the next two weeks.
Chiril Gaburici ordered creating a contest commission that would include by a representative of Parliament, the Presidential Office, civil society and the development partners. “In a month we must already have a clear candidate for this post,” he stated.
The Premier also asked that the Ministry of the Interior should verify the press reports according to which the General Police Inspectorate’s deputy head Gheorghe Cavcaliuc travelled by a car with a false license number.
