Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet announced the launch of the process of liquidating Banca de Economii, Banca Sociala and Unibank after the meeting of the National Committee on Financial Stability that took place in the evening of August 5, IPN reports.

“The National Committee on Financial Stability does not take decisions that are mandatory for implementation. The Committee analyzes particular situations and formulates recommendations. If a consensus is reached in particular situations, these recommendations are put into practice. We negotiated a Memorandum between the Government and the National Bank concerning the actions that must be taken by the governmental institutions as regards the correct and balanced transfer of the treasury accounts, obligations to pay pensions and other social welfare and the obligations of the central bank. These measures are designed to help remedy the situation in our banking system,” said the Premier.

Valeriu Strelet noted that the Committee also discussed the fate of the employees of the three banks. “The plans to reemploy these specialists, who are not to blame for the difficulties experienced by these banks, will be made public in the near future. The banking infrastructure of these entities could be transferred to other banks that will pay money for it, on condition that they maintain their type of activity and reemploy the personnel,” he stated, adding that October 9, 2015 is the deadline by which the liquidation process must end.

On August 5, the governor of the National Bank of Moldova Dorin Dragutanu said he supports the idea of liquidating the three banks. “These banks do not have a future and are not viable from financial viewpoint. They do not have viable information systems. They do not have products and their clients mainly left them,” he stated after the meeting of the Supreme Security Council.

Earlier, the International Monetray Fund put forward the condition of liquidating the three banks for continuing the relations with Moldova.
