Aspects of the bilateral cooperation between Moldova and Belgium and possibilities of strengthening the Moldovan-Belgian dialogue were discussed by Prime Minister Pavel Filip and Belgium’s Ambassador to Moldova with residence in Bucharest Thomas Baekelandt in a meeting in Chisinau, IPN reports, quoting the Government’s press service.

The interlocutors noted that the Moldovan-Belgian relations develop constantly, as the bilateral dialogue does. The Premier reiterated the Government’s commitment to implement the reform agenda in accordance with the Association Agreement with the EU, noting that Moldova banks on Belgium’s support for its modernization efforts.

Pavel Filip underlined the cooperation in internal affairs and the importance of cooperation in the social security area between the two states. The agreement on social security between Moldova and Belgium took effect on February 1, 2016. This regulates aspects of the social security of migrants who work in Belgium on a temporary or permanent basis.

For his part, Ambassador Thomas Baekelandt stressed the dynamic character of the bilateral relations established 25 years ago. He reiterated that his country supports Moldova’s European integration efforts and the efforts to meet the European standards.

Moldova and Belgium so far have signed 32 bilateral agreements, with three draft agreements being under examination.
