Preliminary data: Ion Ceban and Andrei Nastase will compete in runoffs

With 100% of the votes counted, the preliminary data show that the candidate of the Party of Socialists Ion Ceban won 40.97% of the poll, while Andrei Nastase, of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth”– 32.12%. The two candidates will compete for the mayoralty of Chisinau in a runoff vote in two weeks, IPN reports.

Independent candidate Silvia Radu gained 17.65% of the vote and is followed by the National Unity Party’s candidate Constantin Codreanu with 4.55% and the Liberal Party’s candidate Valeriu Munteanu with 3.61%.

The rest of the candidates polled less than 1%. The candidate of the Party “Democracy at Home” Vasile Costiuc won 0.23% of the poll, the candidate of the Pary “Our Home Moldova” Alexandr Roshko - 0.20%, the candidate of the Green Ecologist Party Victor Stratila - 0.19%, the candidate of the National Liberal Party Alexandra Can - 0.17%, the candidate of the Russian-Slavic Party Alexandru Matu – 0.17% and the candidate of the People’s Party Maxim Braila - 0.15%.

The voter turnout in the municipality of Chisinau was 35.53%. This is over 225,000 votes.
