Young members of the People’s Party of Moldova (PPPM) protested in front of the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) on April 5. They left a petition in the institution’s mailbox, asking that the PGO should tell the truth about the April 7, 2009 events, IPN reports.

Ian Lisnevschi, chairman of the Youth Organization of the PPRM, said that by its inaction, the PGO shows its incompetence and indifference to the April 7, 2009 events. “We put pictures with scenes of that tragic day on the PGO’s building. When the prosecutors come out, they should see what they closed the eyes to. We are waiting for the cases to be reexamined,” said the young man. He added that the truth cannot be found out from the political leaders. The PGO is the only institution that can do justice.

”Hundreds of persons were tortured four years ago, after the April 7, 2009 events. Few persons were held accountable for using torture then. The truth is still unknown. Today we need functionaries and prosecutors who will put our interests above the personal interests and professionals who will care about our country and will not hide the reality,” said Ian Lisnevschi.

According to the first vice president of the PPRM Youth Organization Maxim Braila, if the PGO does not answer the petition left in the mailbox during a month, the party’s young people will stage protests. “We want the April 7-related cases to be reexamined because there were committed crimes against the state. We will not be indifferent. We are indignant at the fact that crimes against the state and the people were hushed up and hidden,” he stated.

Earlier, the Youth Organization of the PPRM mounted protests in front of the Palace of the Republic and the Government Building. On April 7, they intend to hold events to commemorate the April 7, 2009 events that resulted in dozens of persons injured, arrests and ill-treatment in police stations.
