The People’s Party of the Republic of Moldova (PPRM) accuses the government of allowing massive imports of fruit into Moldova and of taking no measures to promote the national products. The first deputy chairman of the PPRM Valeriu Cosarciuc in a news conference said the party’s electoral platform contains a series of solutions for supporting the national producers and for prompting the Moldovan products, IPN reports.
“The party’s creed is that everything we consume in Moldova must be produced at home. If such a creed is put into practice, we will have a prosperous country, people working at home and reunited families,” said Valeriu Cosarciuc. He noted that the authorities do nothing to reduce the import of products because they pursue certain goals and Moldova’s annual food imports exceed US$1 billion.
To support the farmers, the PPRM suggests providing subsidies of 2,000 lei per hectare. Currently the subsidies are slightly over 200 lei. Another measure is to exempt the farmers who start a business in agriculture from paying the income tax during five years and to offer them a bonus of 400,000 lei from the state. Agrifood centers should be created for storing and processing agricultural products.
Valeriu Cosarciuc also said that the PPRM started the national campaign “Support You too the Moldovan products” to encourage the national producers. He warned the authorities that over 70% of the goods sold in supermarkets in Moldova are imported goods.
The PPRM is under No. 12 in the ballot.
