The Political Party “Our Party” (PPPN) said it will conduct an internal inquiry into the incident that happened in Racovat village of Soroca district and, if the blame of the party’s candidate for mayor Mihail Mitrofan is proven, this will be punished. The reaction comes after the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) said its candidate for mayor in Racovat was ill-treated by three men. The suspects investigated by the police include the PPPN’s candidate, IPN reports.
“If these facts turn out to be false, this incident can be described as a new provocation on the part of the PLDM, aimed at discrediting the “Our Party” two days before the second round of elections, and as a dirty method to influence the results of the second round of June 28,” the PPPN says in a communique.
The party also says that in the morning of June 25, a police squad entered the house of Mihail Mitrofan, accusing him of attacking his opponent Mihail Andries. Even if the relatives and neighbors stated that Mitrofan didn’t leave his home last night, armed police officers searches his house and questioned the members of his family, based on an ordinance made by prosecutors. Two of the relatives of Mitrofan were arrested and are now held at the Soroca police inspectorate.
The commune says that Mihail Mitrofan, who won 42.96% of the vote in the first round of the mayoral elections, which is twice more than his opponent in the second round Mihail Andries, conducted a correct and fair election campaign and his score in elections proves this.
Earleir today, the PLDM announced that its candidate for mayor of Racovat village of Soroca district Mihail Andries was beaten by three individuals wearing balaclavas in his house last night. As a result of the ill-treatment, Mihail Andries suffered serious bodily injuries and needed emergency medical assistance. He was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Soroca District Hospital.
