The Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” (PPPDA) took note of Ion Chicu’s intention to resign from the post of Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova. In a press release, the party noted the resignation of the current Cabinet is one of the objectives of the PPPDA, which was pursued in time and promoted by the motion of no confidence tabled first in June. The party condemns the voluntarism of the Parliament Speaker who arbitrarily canceled the legislative body’s sitting that was set to start at 3pm and to examine the censure motion against the Chicu Government, IPN reports.
“The PPPDA reiterates the necessity of having snap parliamentary elections caused immediately, according to the constitutional procedures, or organized by a responsible transition government able to manage the economic and health crisis until the next free and fair snap parliamentary elections,” runs the party’s press release.
Prime Minster Ion Chicu announced his intention to resign in a news conference given on December 23 alongside incumbent President Igor Dodon and Parliament Speaker Zinaida Grechanyi.
A special sitting of the legislative body was to be held at 3pm on December 23 to examine the motion of no confidence tabled on December 16. The motion against the Chicu Government was signed by 34 MPs of the PAS, PPPDA and PDM. The authors said the Chicu Government invested in November 2019 failed lamentably to attenuate the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic crisis. The further government by this Cabinet means fewer chances of resolving the sanitary, economic and social crisis experienced by the Republic of Moldova. The disastrous management of the state affairs by this Government most evident in two key sectors – the healthcare and the economy.
