The extraparliamentary Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” (PPPDA) demands to annual the 20% tax on personal belongings that the Moldovans from the diaspora pay when they return home. It asked that such provisions should be included in the 2022 state budget law, IPN reports.

In a news conference, members of the party reminded that during the election campaign, President Maia Sandu proposed a bill enabling the Moldovans who had lived abroad for at least three years to take into Moldova, on return, personal possessions, such as domestic appliances, furniture and equipment.

“This would be an important signal that the diaspora is welcome home indeed and that concrete measures are taken to facilitate the reintegration of the diaspora at home,” the party noted in a press release.

PPPDA also requested to create reintegration services, to facilitate employment, including by offering professional training courses, to design a program for the temporary return of the diaspora’s competence and expertise and to facilitate the diaspora’s investments at home.
