The mayor-elect of Chisinau municipality Andrei Nastase called on his supporters not to yield to possible provocations staged by those who now rule in Moldova. The leader of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” (PPPDA) told a news conference that this delay is not against him, but against the citizens of Chisinau municipality. If the seat of the mayor elected by the inhabitants of Chisinau is not validated in the nearest future, the validation will occur in the most democratic way possible, on the street.

“In two days, the required documents should have been sent to court so that these documents related to the electoral process could be examined within ten days and a verdict was issued. If we do some calculations, we see that two weeks have passed since the elections and this hasn’t been yet done,” said Andrei Nastase.

The mayor-elect noted that he today returned from abroad where he had meetings with representatives of the diaspora, experts, the mayor of Vienna and a number of councilors. He established very good contacts there, but these cannot be put to good use given that he didn’t take up his duties yet. “If my seat is not validated, I will seek support from the people and we will take to the streets. The validation can take place some other way as they illegally delay things. It is evident that someone tries to obstruct the people’s vote and something like this in a democracy is inadmissible,” stated Andrei Nastase.

The Centru branch of the Court of Chisinau on June 15 put off the validation of the seat of the elected mayor of Chisinau. In a new hearing on June 18, the secretary of the Chisinau District Electoral Council Vitalie Miron asked to replace the judge. The application was accepted and the case is to be redistributed to another judge.
