The Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” (PPPDA) requests the National Road Transport Agency to annul the order by which the interurban transport fares were raised. In a news conference, PPPDA leader Andrei Năstase read a statement saying the sudden 25% rise in fares affected the most underprivileged groups of society, IPN reports.
According to the politician, as many local hospitals were closed, the much longer distances to district hospital services involve higher costs that most of the people cannot cover. The rise in transport fares is much higher than the planned indexations and pension increases.
“The DA Platform realizes the necessity of approving real transport fares that would cover the costs of the operators working in the field, but notes that this process should be mandatorily synchronized with the de-monopolization of the transport sector, modernization of the comfort conditions in public transport,” said Andrei Năstase, reading the statement.
“Such decisions show that we think only about the way in which we must advantage the carriers and think less about a state policy that should facilitate the people’s life.”
According to PPPDA vice president Liviu Vovc, by the decision to raise the passenger transport fares, the image of the social projects of which the government boasts was damaged. The decision also affected the students whose scholarships haven’t been raised for a period.
If the order to increase the interurban passenger transport fares is not annulled, the PPPDA will seek the removal of the minister of economy by a motion of no confidence.
