The Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” (PPPDA) requested that the ambassador of the Russian Federation should be summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration so as to provide explanations about the goal and character of the military exercises conducted in the Transnistrian region, IPN reports.
In a press release, the party suggests stepping up control at the Eastern border, at the joint customs posts, in accordance with the legal rigors of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine and the prophylactic measures for ensuring more rigorous control at the Chisinau International Airport so as to prevent eventual attempts by the Russian Federation to supplement the troops in Transnistria.
“It’s true that the separatist regime in Tiraspol does not ask for the Moldovan authorities’ permission to organize the military drilling of the Operational Group of Russian Forces, which makes the Joint Control Commission’s work practically inefficient. It is also true that we do not feel more protected by ignoring the phenomenon and by taking no attitude to the danger that can dramatically change our life,” said former MP of PPPDA Kiril Moțpan.
According to the party, the separatist region survives because the Moldovan authorities made a number of “gifts” to Tiraspol, such as the exclusive contract for the supply of electricity from Kuchurgan.
Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian today is to have a meeting with the chief negotiator of Tiraspol Vitaly Ignatiev to discuss the military exercises staged in the Transnistrian region. “We are evidently concerned about the situation in the region. At the same time, we urge again to show maturity, understanding and wisdom and plead for peace and stability in our region,” Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița told a news conference on Wednesday. As regards the tense situation at the Russian-Ukrainian border, the official voiced hope that the sides will behave so as to ensure stability and peace in the region.
