The initiative group for collecting signatures in support of the candidate of the European People’s Party of Moldova (PPEM) for President Iurie Leanca on September 9 filed the signatures to the Central Election Commission, IPN reports.

Iurie Leanca has told the press that they collected over 20,000 signatures from 19 districts and from the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti. The process was both easy and difficult, but is an additional proof of the fact that the PPEM is represented all over the country and has a solid and united team that will help him to win.

The politician noted that they managed to build a very good platform for the coming election campaign. While collecting signatures, they discussed the existent problems and the solutions proposed by the party to them with each citizen. Iurie Leanca said he will soon present his political program that is realistic and is designed to bring prosperity and welfare to the people.

To run in the elections, a candidate must collect at least 15,000 signatures in their favor by September 29. The signatures are collected based on subscription lists issued by the CEC after registering the initiative group.

Before Iurie Leanca, subscription lists to the CEC were submitted by the Democratic Party’s candidate Marian Lupu and the Liberal Party’s candidate Mihai Ghimpu. If the signatures are validated, Marian Lupu will top the list of candidates on the ballot, while Mihai Ghimpu will be second. Iurie Leanca could be third if no other candidate files the signatures by this evening. A draw is held if two or more candidates submit the signatures the same day.
