The Constitutional Court rejected the application to recount the July 29 votes filed by the Christian Democratic People’s Party (PPCD). The Court’s spokesman Dumitru Tara has told Info-Prim Neo that there is not enough evidence to accept the party’s request.
“The PPCD’s application was rejected as groundless. It does not contain proofs showing that the votes should be recounted,” Dumitru Tara said.
On August 3, the PPCD notified the Constitutional Court of “violations of the electoral legislation committed by certain runners and officials during the recent electoral campaign.” The party said that it does not agree with the election outcome and demanded that the votes be recounted before the elections are validated.
“The recounting of votes is necessary in order to find out the truth - if people’s votes are counted correctly and if they reach the destination,” the representative of the PPCD to the Central Election Commission Radu Busila said at a news conference on Tuesday.
Political analysts described the PPCD’s gesture as attempt to remain in the spotlight. In the July 29 elections, the PPCD won 1.91% of the ballot. The election threshold was 5%.
