In addition to the daily five-hour interruptions in the supply of power, the inhabitants of the Transnistrian region could remain without electricity for one more hour on Friday. The Transnistrian administration said that the supply of power could be resumed with delay, IPN reports.
In the Transnistrian region, the electricity is turned off in stages, by groups of addresses, between 07:00-12:00, 12:00-17:00 and 17:00-22:00. On weekends, the power is switched off at 08:00.
After Gazprom stopped gas deliveries on January 1, the left bank of the Nistru is supplied with electricity by the MGRES Power Plant, which runs on coal, and by the Dubăsari Hydropower Plant. The MGRES has coal reserves until mid-February.
In order to solve the energy and humanitarian crisis, Chisinau decided to lend 3 million cubic meters of natural gas to the Transnistrian region in order to maintain pressure in the system. The solution was coordinated with the European Commission, which proposed an emergency assistance package of €30 million as a first step to support the Republic of Moldova in overcoming the energy crisis.
