From January 1, 2025, interruptions in the supply of electricity are possible, but this could only take place in parts and for limited periods of time. Prime Minister Dorin Recean said that if Moldova is not supplied with electricity by Transnistria’s MGRES, it will buy it on the market and the charges can be influenced. If they increase, the authorities will provide compensation, IPN reports.

"As for electricity, we have the capacity to import it from Romania and other European countries through the ENTSO-E network. We may have certain interruptions, but only in parts and for a limited period, if the energy infrastructure in Ukraine is destroyed," Premier Recean said in the program "Secrets of the Power" on JurnalTV channel.

"If the segment of the Isaccea-Vulcanesti voltage line that passes through Ukraine is destroyed, we will have to reconnect to other lines that supply electricity from Romania and during these intervals we may have interruptions," stated the official.

The Government will provide support measures for vulnerable categories in an effort to mitigate the economic effects on the population. "We have already allocated 2 billion lei for the compensations offered this season and, if necessary, we will increase this budget," explained Premier Recean.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the Russian company Gazprom has not made reservations of transmission capacity on the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline for January 2025. This could lead to the cessation of natural gas supplies to the Transnistrian region starting January 1, 2025. Currently, Gazprom provides the Transnistrian region with a daily volume of 5.7 million cubic meters of gas.
