The state-run Poșta Moldovei (Moldovan Mail), the national postal operator, will be reorganized into a joint-stock company to attract investment, foreign as well as domestic, according to a draft Government resolution.
The measure, according to the draft, will make the company more stable and stimulate its growth.
In the last five years, there has been a decline in the investments made by Poșta Moldovei in postal services. Peaking in 2019 at 19 million lei, investments dropped to 9 million lei in 2020, and in further to 6 million lei in 2021.
“By becoming co-owners or shareholders of a company, investors commit themselves to making that company profitable and successful. Based on this reasoning, Poșta Moldovei initiated a plan to digitize and modernize both its services and its logistics network by attracting investment”, says the draft resolution.
Among the company’s plans is to build a mail sorting and processing facility, renew its fleet, update its digital systems and even introduce a digital coin. Based on the experience of similar companies, the needed investments are estimated at 20 million euros..
Poșta Moldovei was founded on 15 April 1993 as Moldova’s national postal operator.
