Possibilities of recognizing prior learning to be explored as part of vocational eduction reformation project

The Institute for Development and Social Initiative (IDIS) “Viitorul” will implement an assistance project of the European Training Foundation, which is interested in reforming the vocational education system of Moldova by improving the legislation and adapting the programs of study of the vocational schools and colleges to the labor market necessities. During the next two years (May 2010 – December 2011), the Institute will facilitate the communication between managers of vocational institutions, local and national authorities on the one hand and the donors and civil society on the other hand. The discussions on the problems faced in vocational education, from rigid financing to weak interaction with the private sector, will form the basis for a series of public policy studies, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from IDIS “Viitorul” The researches will be conducted in partnership with the Professional Training Institute. Experts of IDIS will formulate a report on the possibilities of recognizing prior learning for Moldovan adults. The knowledge gained at the workplace, the volunteering and community work activities will be assessed and recognized officially, offering the people more possibilities of asserting themselves professionally. A field visit will be paid by 20 representatives of the authorities and donors in September. It will be aimed at identifying the shortcomings that affect the colleges and vocational schools, as perceived by the students and administration. Within the second stage of the project (February – December 2011), the Institute for Development and Social Initiative and the Professional Training Institute will assist the authorities in planning and implementing policies on vocational education. There will be promoted measures aimed at optimizing the sector legislation. The Professional Training Institute will work out three model programs of study that will be correlated with employers' expectations of the college and vocational school graduates.
