The Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment warns the population about the ban on burning vegetal waste imposed by law. Representatives of the local authorities, in concert with police officers and inspectors for environmental protection, are carrying out inspections to prevent the burning of dry leaves, IPN reports.
In a press release, the Ministry said the persons who will burn leaves and household waste will pay a fine in accordance with the Contravention Code. Private individuals are punished with a fine of 600 to 1,200 lei or up to 60 hours of community service, while legal entities are fined 4,500 to 9,000 lei.
Specialists say the smoke that results from burning accumulates in the air. Toxic substances are emitted and can cause respiratory system positioning, nervous system and eye diseases and can enter the atmosphere, soil and surface waters. The elderly people and those who suffer from cardiovascular system diseases are the most vulnerable ones.
The burning of waste is not permitted either at home or in the fields. Specialists recommend leaving this on fields as a fertilizer for soil.
