If a referendum on Moldova’s entry into the European Union or the Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan Customs Union was held, 35.6% of the people would vote for the European course, while 46.8% – for the Eurasian one, shows the Public Opinion Barometer for last month, IPN reports.
Asked if the country will enjoy advantages or disadvantages if it joins the EU, over 29% of those polled said it would enjoy more advantages, while almost 15% said the country will benefit from advantages only. At the same time, over 26% of the respondents consider the country would witness more disadvantages if it joined the EU, while 14% are sure that it would see only disadvantages.
As to the entry into the Customs Union, over 35% of those surveyed consider the country would enjoy more advantages, while about 20% see only advantages. At the same time, over 20% see more disadvantages, while almost 10% - only disadvantages.
Asked how they would vote if a referendum on Moldova’s union with Romania was held next Sunday, over 66% of the respondents said they would vote against, while 17% said they would vote for the union.
As regards the best solution for ensuring security, over 58% of those polled prefer the neutrality status. As to the holding of a plebiscite on Moldova’s entry into NATO, over 60% of the respondents said they would vote against, while slightly over 15% said they would vote for.
The Public Opinion Barometer was carried out by the Center for Sociological Investigations and Marketing “CBS-AXA”. It was commissioned by the Institute for Public Policy, which has presented the Barometer since 1998. The poll was conducted between April 16 and 24 and covered a sample of 1,143 persons from 86 communities. The margin of sampling error is 2.8%.
