Population census to be taken in Moldova in 2014

A population census and, for the first time, a census of apartments and houses will be taken in Moldova in 2014. The lawmakers passed a bill to this effect in the first reading. The costs are estimated at 90 million lei. They will be covered with money from the state budget and foreign resources, Info-Prim Neo reports. Under the bill, there will be counted the houses and apartments and analyzed the people’s living conditions. The census will cover the persons with ordinary residence, the persons who left the country for a period, the personnel of the embassies and the people living in Moldova on a temporary basis. The census may be taken on April 1-14, 2014. According to the recommendations of international organizations, a census must be organized once in ten years. The last population census in Moldova was taken in 2004. About 3.4 million people lived in Moldova then.
