This year’s population and housing census in Moldova will start on April 8 and will run until July. A draft decision to this effect was approved by the Cabinet on Wednesday, IPN reports.
National Bureau of Statistics director general Oleg Cara said that census data will be collected either directly by interviewing the persons concerned or indirectly, from administrative or private data sources.
The information collected during the census will be used to calculate the number of resident population of the Republic of Moldova, to determine census indicators, with territorial disaggregation, and to establish the survey base for statistical surveys in households, etc.
According to the approved draft decision, the purpose of the census is to provide information of public interest about the resident population and housing for policy development, monitoring and evaluation, for the substantiation of human development decisions, for scientific research and development of the business environment.
Under the state budget law for 2024, 244.3 million lei will be allocated to the National Bureau of Statistics, for the Censuses subprogram, to finance the organization and taking of the census.
