Moldova’s delegation to the Join Control Commission, which is the administrative body managing the Security Zone in the eastern districts, in a press release says provocations are possible during the period of the so-called elections that are to take place in Transnistria on November 29. IPN News Agency asked the delegation for a clarification on the issue.

“Such signals derive both from the press reports about the bitter struggle for power between the political groups in Transnistria and from special sources that point to the increased presence and activism of the police in the region. Moldova’s delegation warned the Transnistrian delegation to the Join Control Commission about the necessity of taking all the measures needed to keep the situation under control. The official Chisinau made a call to observe the regime established in the Security Zone and not to allow violations of the human rights and freedoms. In this connection, the population and foreigners who are in the Republic of Moldova are asked not to travel to the Transnistrian region without reason on November 28-29 so as to avoid possible security risks and incidents,” sources in the Moldovan delegation have told IPN.

Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration issued the embassies with a note saying the so-called elections in Transnistria are illegal and affect the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova, reason for which the representatives of other states and the international organizations are asked to ignore them. A similar call was made by the Central Election Commission to the foreign electoral authorities and election monitoring missions.
