The agenda of the special relationship between the Republic of Moldova and Romania is resumed by cooperation subjects referring to the Iasi – Chisinau gas pipeline, modernization of the Chisinau – Ungheni railways, the Ungheni – Ungheni bridge over the Prut that will open the way to the Union highway, building of aqueducts and other projects that are consonant with the European integration of the Republic of Moldova, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nicu Popescu stated in a joint news conference with his Romanian counterpart Bogdan Aurescu given after the meeting the two held in Bucharest, IPN reports.

The ministers discussed the upcoming EaP summit and the statement that is to be adopted by this, fostering of the political dialogue and updating of the agreement on the provision of €100 million in non-reimbursable assistance that wasn’t fully implemented and other subjects of common interest.

Nicu Popescu noted that this visit abroad is the first paid as part of the current mandate, being a traditional proof of the privileged relations between Moldova and Romania. Romania is the main commercial partner of the Republic of Moldova and the goal is to increase Romanian investments now that the government decided to reform the Republic of Moldova by establishing the rule of law and fighting corruption.

The minister said the European integration is a national consensus issue in both of the states. He thanked the Romanian diplomatic service for the consistency in Bruises and in the other capitals of the European community in favor of the Republic of Moldova and for the anti-pandemic assistance, saying that each second vaccine administered on the left side of the Prut is part of the Romanian aid.

For his part, Minister Bogdan Aurescu welcomed the presence of his counterpart at the annual meeting of the Romanian diplomatic service, where Nicu Popescu is to give a speech. He noted that this visits confirms the special relationship between the two states, as did President Klaus Iohanis’ visit to Chisinau and the Moldovan Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu’s visit to Bucharest and other contacts between the administrations of the two countries. The current meeting centered on the preparation of the joint meeting of the governments of Romania and Moldova.

“Romania’s message of support for the profound reformation and modernization of the Republic of Moldova is firm. We have a common bilateral strategic objective that is the irreversible course of the Republic of Moldova. In our discussion, we precisely and pragmatically reiterated our commitment to support these cooperation projects. It’s true that the challenges, problems you need to deal with are many in number and they have a cumulative character, but I’m confident that the reforms will advance at a sustained pace, with an efficient government, offering an impetus to the profound democratic reform process… I’m glad that we recently managed to make a donation of €300,000 for the development of civil society through the European Endowment for Democracy,” said the Romanian official.
