Poor wheat crops this year

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry expects fewer cereal crops this year, relative to the previous years. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Minister Vasile Bumacov stated that the cereals were affected by frost and drought, and the yield will vary from region to region. “We are expecting around 540,000 tons of cereals this year. What matters is that the alimentary security was not affected, even though the plants have suffered a tremendous thermal stress”, stated Mihai Suvac, head of the Production Policy and Regulation of Vegetable Quality Division. According to the working data, in southern districts the yield is expected to be of 1 ton per hectare, in the southeast -1.5 tons, and in central districts – 2 tons.
