This week’s and the expected precipitation may cause the ponds and lakes in Moldova to flood. Ivan Cuceinic, of Moldova’s Waters Agency, has told IPN that there is no danger of floods on the Nistru and Prut Rivers at the moment.

There is not enough place in the accumulation lake in Novodnestrovsc on the Nistru and in Costesti-Stanca on the Prut to store up the water from possible floods. The release capacity in Novodnestrovsc is now 150 cubic meters per second, while in Costesti-Stanca – 40 cubic meters per second. Moldova’s Waters Agency is waiting for information from the colleagues from Ukraine and Romania to establish if there is a danger of floods.

Heavy rain has fallen in Moldova for three days, in parts with hail and high winds. Forecasters said it will continue to rain up to the beginning of next week. The State Hydrometeorology Service issued a yellow code advisory for rainstorm for the period until May 24.
