The polygraph testing of the candidates for the mayoralty of Chisinau, suggested by the Green Ecologist Party, failed. According to the party’s leader Anatolie Prohnitski, who is running for the post of Chisinau mayor, the National Anticorruption Center refused to provide the lie detector, but the contestants also didn’t express great interest, the invitation to take the test being accepted by only two of these, IPN reports.

In a news conference held before the Chisinau City Hall, where the testing was to take place, Anatolie Prohnitski said the National Anticorruption Center in its response says the polygraph testing is performed only in relation to the Center’s employees and the test can be done only if the tested person accepts voluntarily. “I proposed that this test should be done of one’s own free will, in the presence of everyone,” he stated.

The candidate noted that the invitation to take the polygraph test was sent to all the election runners, who were to give an answer by June 7. Only Tatiana Tomacu, of the Party “Moldova’s Patriots”, and Timotei Turcanu, of the National Liberal Party, accepted the invitation.

Timotei Turcanu said the test is welcome. “Why didn’t other candidates come to show their integrity? As far as I know, the lie detector is based on advanced technology and can indeed say something about the tested person,” he stated.

The Green Ecologist Party invited the candidates for the mayoralty of Chisinau to take the polygraph test publicly, arguing the mayor general must be an honest person.
